Get a taste of Shizuoka’s local flavors—Shizuoka Oden and Wasabi Rice, made with the region’s prized wasabi from the northern mountains. Step inside and you’ll also find a nostalgic selection of dagashi, the classic Japanese candies and sweets that have delighted children since the postwar era.
Simmered to perfection, oden is a beloved Japanese soul food featuring fish cakes, eggs, beef tendon, and other ingredients slow-cooked in a flavorful broth. While most enjoy it with drinks at izakayas, in Shizuoka, oden has long been a childhood favorite at neighborhood dagashi shops too. After school, kids would rush in, clutching their pocket money, picking their favorite simmered treats straight from the pot—a familiar scene that once defined Shizuoka, but has now become a rare sight.
For under just 100 yen, you can take home a handful of dagashi, from long-selling classics dating back to the Showa era to more recent favorites. Unlike modern convenience store snacks, these treats have a simple, nostalgic charm that has delighted generations. Why not bring some home as a unique souvenir?

Gosaku opened in 2023 in hopes of keeping Shizuoka’s rare and fading dagashi shop culture alive. Inside, retro posters and signs from decades past pull on your nostalgia strings, recreating the atmosphere of a bygone era. The shop even features shateki (a classic Japanese festival shooting game) and vintage arcade games from the 1970s.
The shop’s signature dish is a set of Wasabi Rice and Shizuoka Oden. Freshly grated wasabi, carefully cultivated in the mountain valleys north of Shizuoka City, is served over rice with a topping of bonito flakes—perfectly complementing the rich flavors of oden.
